The co-operation agreement will optimise, promote and expand the two-way flow of goods from Hungary to Flanders over the inland navigation network.

Hungary’s strategic location is an essential factor that allows it to function as a transit nation to other countries in Eastern and Central Europe.

In view of its impending membership to the EU, the Hungarian government is in the process of transforming the Danube into a fully-fledged transport highway by investing heavily in the expansion of the port infrastructures of Gyor and Baja.

The co-operation agreement with the NV Zeekanaal en Watergebonden Grondbeheer Vlaanderen is an important boost for promoting the general navigability of the Danube. The aim is to turn the Danube into a major traffic artery between east and west.
